This group is for anybody here at Minds who wants to talk autism.
It isn't just a clique-y group for those who ARE on the autism spectrum themselves or for those who have LOVED ones - children, siblings, spouses etc. - on the autism spectrum. Anyone who truly WANTS to learn more about what autism is and how it affects those living with it is welcome.
There are no rules (well, there's ONE..., as a member OF this group you cannot block the creator, that's just bad form π€¨), this is an open - currently unmoderated - group where you can talk/ask about anything and everything autism related, as long as you keep it somewhat CIVIL.
You participate at your own discretion - don't talk about things you don't want others to know about.
Also, if there's anything written/mentioned in a post or comment that you don't understand for whatever reason, just ASK. Someone will be able to explain it to you. There ARE no stupid questions.

Thinking about documenting some of my misadventures from my time in the Army. Specifically, the misadventures that led to me being diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (now called ASD Level 1) and how I dealt with that particular plot twist. Any interest out there?

Today, April 2nd, is International Autism Awareness Day. All of April is Autism Awareness Month.
This year I have lived exactly as long KNOWING that I have a form of autism as I've lived NOT knowing AT ALL.
I turn 56 in May, and I received my late-in-life diagnosis at the age of 28. That diagnosis had only existed for a few years at the time, so I really COULDN'T have gotten it as a child.
I don't celebrate my autism, I celebrate my AUTISM DIAGNOSIS! -Mrs. entryreqrd

"Kids with autism arenβt able to understand the speakerβs tone, as information isnβt delivered to the temporoparietal junction, or TPJ. Through the teamβs findings, people can better understand why those with autism have trouble with social communication. Itβs not because they canβt comprehend or hear you, but because of the changes in their brain function."

This is useful for neurotypicals, those on the autism spectrum and those of us that live with someone on the spectrum as sometimes we forget.
