The Mercedes-Benz W125 Rekordwagen was an experimental high-speed car produced in the 1930s. The car set a speed record of 432.7 km/h (268.9 mph) on a public road (A5 autobahn) in Germany on January 28, 1938, by Rudolf Caracciola. This record remained the fastest officially timed speed on a public road until 2017. The later aerodynamically designed car was derived from the 1937 W125 open-wheel racing car. The car has an unusually aerodynamic shape for a racing car.
