I just wanted to give a quick update on my latest distro hopping journey: I think I finally have a realistic Fedora replacement lined up. Artix has been surprisingly solid on my hardware, and Redcore is also in the mix, though being Gentoo‑based, some parts definitely require more hands‑on work. Still, between the two, I’m hitting 90–95% coverage of everything I need once the initial setup is finished. Artix is the closest I’ve come to a stable, systemd‑free workflow that doesn’t fight me every step of the way.

Our Linux group has been slowly growing, and I’d love to see us all share a bit more of what we’re working; like any projects, small tweaks, distro experiments, or even questions that spark discussion. Every post helps build the kind of community where we learn from each other...See more

Sorry it has been a long time since I have posted. I have had a lot going on with graduating and life in general. I am however sad to announce I will likely be switching from what I thought would be a forever distro (Fedora) to a different one due to personal conflicts with the dev team's conviction for the freedom that Linux has stood for... I will try to post more soon.

I am thinking about switching the whole house to Artix (or at least giving it a real shot). I have been doing a ton of Linux work at home lately with testing distros, rebuilding configurations, trying to figure out what actually fits my workflow long‑term. After running Artix...See more

I am curious if others feel the same way about current events regarding the age verification laws and the fact Canonical is bowing to them. I always thought Linux was supposed to be an independent system that did what the users wanted and not what a local (state not federal) law maker decided. The law was poorly written and is not something that will benefit anyone in the long run except cyber criminals that exploit the new system...

I’ve picked up a lot of new Linux knowledge lately, especially while troubleshooting my Fedora 43 setup (it is very smooth like 90% of the time). After digging through the issues I am having, I’m thinking a fresh reinstall is probably the smartest path forward. Sometimes starting clean is the best way to keep learning and avoid fighting a system that’s gotten too tangled up. Onward with the journey.

I thought a image showing some slight differences between three popular filesystems might be helpful for some... I took it from a Facebook post, but it should be useful to someone.

I have realized in my long years of Linux use (all 6 months of regular daily use)... There is no perfect or "best" distro, just a best for each user - and sometimes it is just the best possible, not perfect. I have found that for me (so far at least), Fedora works better than all the others I have tried. Does not mean it is perfect or the best for everyone, but it is the best fit for me specifically so far.

Anyone know how to bare metal install SoaS (Sugar on a Stick)? I have not gone too in-depth yet on trying to figure it out, but it seems to be more to it than most distros. I have a little child that I would like to get a old laptop running SoaS for them to play with and learn on... My other option is to just install Fedora 42/43 on it for him...

Not had much time to continue exploring Linux lately... But I am taking a course this semester about Solaris (a Unix server OS). It uses many of the same commands and some similar but slightly different ones. It looks to be based on GNOME desktop environment, but I am not a fan...See more

Well... I have had a fun and exciting summer, ok not really fun nor "exciting" in a good way. But it was definitely not a slow summer, and I did quite a bit of learning. I am currently triple booting my main desktop and slowly converting other systems over to linux. My main...See more
