Seed Library Haul

I was going out today anyway, so figured I'd stop by the library to both donate seeds and pick up a few. I donated some tomato seeds (beefsteak), some bean seeds (blue lake pole), dwarf French marigolds, anise hyssop and some spineless okra. As you can see, I brought some of my...See more

Seed swapping. Now obviously, I have a marginally ridiculous number of seeds in my collection. And yes, I will in fact put a big dent in that collection during the coming season. But I don't actually need to grow hundreds of tomato plants. Here is where seed swapping comes in....See more

Seed Reorganization Day

I had stuffed loose seed packs into my seed binder at random, figured I should fix that. And.... yeah, I live the "gardener obsessed with seeds" stereotype. But, I will say, your seed collection does say a lot about you. I mean I knew this, but tomatoes, beans, and winter...See more

Growing crops indoors has been a lot of trial and error. Strawberries were probably not an easy one, but I am finally figuring out nitrogen/hydration/sunlight, all of which these plants seem to crave to the highest degree. And indoors, the bugs can't eat them before I do! There is no flavor like homegrown. #gardening

I Grow Sticks

But honestly, winter is definitely propogation time. Got a good variety going this year. Two types of figs, mystery grapes (I mean, they are from my grapes so Nars or Niagra, if I'm remembering right), red currants, josta berries, gooseberries, cold hard kiwis, and sour cherries. Not sure how successful any of them will be, but I'll honestly likely give most of them away, so, it's whatever.... oh, I should get some blueberries going to, just where to put them....

Pruning Day

I know, I've been afk for a while, but the gardening continues. Today was pruning day for my fruit trees and vining plants. I'll still need to go back out soon for canes and bushes, but I thought the 10 trees and 5 vines was enough for one day. Ended up doing more of a spur...See more

My two dwarf bean plants have produced about 4Kg of beans in about five weeks. They are still producing and flowering, though they are starting to wind down. This is my best result ever and I grow these all year round. The only fertilizer they had was buried vegetable scraps,...See more

egg shells

i crush all my egg shells and spread them on the gardens in the spring. they prevent the black rot that occurs on tomatoes and the nutrients are good for the soil.

Scrap Apple Cider Vinegar Batch

Figured I'd make my batch of apple sauce today and didn't want to waste the scraps. I use little plates as my weights, they work even if it looks a bit odd. I also tossed in a little vinegar from my last batch, as one of my bottles was low. Figured it wouldn't hurt to try to get it started. The apple sauce is in the water bath now.
