"This is Clown Town, the underpeople place. Haven't you heard of it?"Published in 1964, it's quite an amazingly prescient story. The Dead Lady is a "machine print" of the personality of a woman who died many years before the time of the story. She has become "Travelers' Aid", a help booth in the Undercity. If you like science fiction, definitely check out Cordwainer Smith (aka Paul Linebarger). Some of the finest early science fiction ever written.
