Saw the flower and had to take a picture and share it. This is probably a Laconte's Barrel Cactus, which is a subspecies of Red Barrel Cactus that lives in central Arizona.

Fairly pretty dessert sunset. Had to get a new phone. Turns out desert heat can fry cell phone batteries. 🫣 Noticibly better camera on this one.

The flower seemed to be confused as it was growing in the mountains rather than the prairies.😏 I saw many of them near the interstate from New Mexico and into Arizona. In those areas I only saw them at higher elevations probably due to lack of water at lower elevations in that area.
Prairie Sunflowers grow throughout the USA, Southern Canada and Northern Mexico.
