It is a colossal bronze statue of Christopher Columbus located in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, standing at 110 meters (360 feet) tall. Created by Georgian-Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, it depicts Columbus at the helm of a ship and commemorates his historic 1492 voyage. Originally completed in 1991, the statue was only erected in 2016 after being rejected by several U.S. cities.
